Accountability is one of the core foundations of the Oregon Department of Education. This section contains important information on scoring assessments and compiling reports to determine if Oregon schools have made adequate yearly progress (AYP) toward the goal of having all students meet rigorous academic standards by 2013-14 school year (No Child Left Behind Act).

The Oregon Department of Education provides sample tests in social sciences to demonstrate the content and types of questions students might encounter on the Oregon Statewide optional assessment. The items on the sample tests were taken from previous tests. These items are no longer secure and are available for public use.

The Oregon Department of Education provides sample tests to demonstrate the types of reading selections and questions students at grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and CIM might encounter on the Oregon Statewide Assessment administered each spring. Passages on the test represent literary, informative and practical reading selections students might see both in school and other daily reading activities. These sample questions were taken from previous years' tests.

The Oregon Department of Education provides sample tests to demonstrate the content and types of questions students at grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and CIM might encounter on the Oregon Statewide Mathematics (multiple-choice) Assessment administered each year.

The Oregon Department of Education provides sample tests in science to demonstrate the content and types of questions students at Benchmark 2, Benchmark 3 and CIM might encounter on the Oregon Statewide Assessment administered each spring. Items on the sample test were taken from earlier years' Statewide Assessments. These items are no longer secure and have been released for public use.

Standards-based education tells everyone-students, parents, teachers, administrators-what all students are expected to know and be able to do at specified grade levels. Oregon has developed academic content standards in English/ language arts, English language proficiency, mathematics, science, social sciences, physical education, health education, second language, and the arts. The Searchable Standards tool allows you to easily locate the content standards you wish to view. This can be done by subject, grade level (benchmark), and/or strand (sub-topic).
