Boys win and girls break SHS record in Molalla |
The boys swim team earned another convincing victory, this time at the Molalla meet on January 20. Their final score of 171 points signaled to Gladstone (116), Molalla (96) and Stayton (46) that these swimmers are capable of doing great things during the upcoming Championship season.
In the medley relay (1:58.47), Tyler Baldessari again led the Outlaws to their first victory with a good backstroke leg. Nick Luz (breaststroke) and Justin Duvenick (butterfly) gave anchor Holden Sellentin a respectable lead to finish off the race in an outstanding freestyle sprint.

Holden Sellentin added a first with a win in the 200 yds freestyle and Tyler Berg finished first in the 100 yds freestyle (57.40) and 500 yds freestyle (6:15.76).
Justin Duvenick scored top points with his first place in the 100 yds breaststroke (1:18.89) and a second place in the 100 yds butterfly (1:07.33).
The backstroke victory by Conor Greaney (1:04.92) enhanced the overall score for the Outlaws by another 9 points.
Two more relay wins solidified the Outlaws team win. The "A" team with Justin Duvenick , Bryant Lasken , Tyler Baldessari and Holden Sellentin came in first in the 200 yards freestyle relay (1:43.51), followed by the "B" team and Seth Flanders , Billy Sampson, Tyler Berg and Jake Miller in second. And, the 400 yds freestyle relay, the last event of the evening, went to the foursome of Tyler Baldessari , Tyler Berg , Justin Duvenick and Holden Sellentin again. Their final time of 3:50.47 was 25 seconds faster than the second place finisher, Molalla.
The next meet for the Outlaws is on Jan. 23 in Albany.

Billy Sampson In the last event of the January 20 meet against Stayton, Gladstone and Molalla, the foursome of Michelle Young , Tia Berg , Katie Stewart and Courteney Satko finished a very successful meet with another first place and a new Sisters High School record in the 400 yds freestyle relay. Their time of 4:12.00 is 0.04 seconds faster than the old record, established by Courteney Satko , Hillary Johnson , Tia Berg and Felicia Pledger during the 2008-09 season.
The Outlaw girls "A" team (2:08.67) with Young , Berg , Stewart and Satko started the meet with a decisive victory in the 200 yds medley relay ahead of seven other relay teams. One of their biggest District 3 rivals, Stayton, finished second with a time of 2:16.28. The Sisters "B" team with Hillary Johnson , Cierra Tigard , Peggy Barrett and Samantha Williamson earned a respectable 4th place with a time of 2:27.34.
Katie Stewart easily won the 200 yds individual medley in a time of 2:30.43.
Courteney Satko (26.90) and Michelle Young (27.65) followed suit and went one-two in the 50 yds freestyle.
The 200 yds freestyle relay was once more a highly contested event with Molalla out-touching the Outlaws at the wall by a mere 0.38 seconds. Michelle Young , Tia Berg , Katie Stewart and Courteney Satko will face competition like this at District Championships, when archrival Cascade will also be racing for a first place and automatic advance to the State competition. Hillary Johnson added another second place with her performance in the 100 yds backstroke (1:21.11) and earned valuable points for the team score. Tia Berg rounded out the individual top performances with a second place in the 100 yds breaststroke. Berg's race was outstanding and her time of 1:24.77 put her 0.7 seconds in front of Gladstone's star breaststroker, Rachel Robinson. Molalla's senior, Debora Ragau won the event in a time of 1:21.43.
All times are averaged times from three hand-held times as Molalla did not have electronic touch pads installed for this competition.
Overall, the girls tied with Stayton for second place (128). Molalla won the meet with a score of 160.
